First Lady Tinubu Commends Wike for Abuja City Gate Transformation
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu honored FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for transforming Abuja's City Gate, prompting Wike to launch a new emergency redevelopment project in Lifecamp.
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu presented certificates of commendation to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and Minister of State Dr. Mariya Bunkure at Aso Rock Villa for their environmental efforts. Tinubu praised the transformation of the Abuja City Gate into a recreational landmark, citing it as a prime example of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Green Nigeria Challenge. Despite the success in the capital, she expressed disappointment that no state governments entered the 50 million naira prize category designed to engage youth in converting abandoned spaces into green parks.
Minister Nyesom Wike credited the First Lady's observations of international city entrances as the inspiration for the project. In response to the commendation, Wike announced plans to align Abuja with global standards by hosting the city's first-ever New Year fireworks display at the City Gate.
Following the ceremony, Wike inspected a long-abandoned recreation park at the old Life Camp Roundabout. He designated the site as an emergency redevelopment project and directed the Federal Capital Development Authority to bypass routine bureaucracy to quickly redesign the area with modern sporting and recreational facilities.
