Mitsubishi Motors Expands U.S. Lineup Under Momentum 2030 Strategy

Mitsubishi Motors North America will expand its U.S. vehicle lineup to six models by 2027 and re-enter the pickup truck market through a partnership with Nissan.

Mitsubishi Motors North America updated its Momentum 2030 business strategy during a dealer meeting in Tennessee to restore brand strength and increase U.S. market share. The plan centers on four pillars: electrification, product lineup expansion, retail model modernization, and network growth.

By early 2027, the company will expand its U.S. offerings from four to six vehicles. This expansion includes the launch of the all-electric Eclipse Sportback SUV this fall, which is a rebadged Nissan Leaf, and a rugged, off-road Outlander variant scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. A primary goal of the strategy is the company's re-entry into the North American pickup truck segment via a vehicle co-developed with Nissan. While specific timing remains undisclosed, the truck is expected to feature a ladder-frame chassis with hybrid and internal combustion options.

Globally, the company confirmed the return of the Pajero nameplate on September 2. While a U.S. launch as the Montero is possible by 2030, the company has not yet finalized that decision. Mark Chaffin, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America, stated that the company is fully committed to the path forward for the U.S. market.
