Meta Adds Data Opt-Out Controls for Muse AI Agent

Meta Platforms, Inc. introduced new privacy controls for its Muse AI agent, enabling users to opt out of having their data used to train the company's AI models. This feature is accessible via a switch in the Data Controls section of the Muse settings menu.

Beyond training opt-outs, the company added a Reset Muse option to permanently delete active tasks, files, and chat history, alongside the ability to remove individual conversations. Meta stated it scrubs personally identifiable information, including email addresses and Social Security numbers, from training datasets.

While Meta asserts that Virtual Machine data and Muse conversations are not shared with its ad systems, it noted that the agent's internet browsing activity can indirectly influence advertisements on Facebook and Instagram. These Muse controls differ from Meta's broader policies for Instagram and Facebook, where public content from adult users in the United States is used for training without a similar opt-out mechanism, a feature currently limited to users in the European Union.
