Russia Threatens UK as Denmark Ramps Up Ukraine Aid

The Government of Denmark accelerated a 1.8 billion Danish crown ($276 million) aid package for Ukrainian air defenses on September 18, 2026. The decision followed a confrontation in international waters where a Russian frigate fired flares without warning at a Danish military helicopter. While Russia accused Denmark of performing dangerous maneuvers, Danish officials stated that any attempt to pressure the country into withholding support would result in increased aid.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation summoned the United Kingdom's deputy head of mission in Moscow to protest British military support for Ukraine. Russian officials warned that the supply of drones and weapons systems could trigger retaliatory measures, specifically declaring that any British facilities in Ukraine used to strike Russian territory would be considered legitimate targets.

The United Kingdom has committed to providing over 120,000 drones to Ukraine this year. Additionally, the British government authorized the defense firm MBDA to share classified information regarding Storm Shadow long-range missile components to facilitate local Ukrainian manufacturing. Russia asserted that London bears full responsibility for any further adverse developments in the region.
