William Ruto Unveils New Dual-Tone Kenya Police Uniforms

President William Ruto unveiled redesigned General Duty uniforms for the Kenya Police Service on Friday, August 28, 2026. The unveiling took place during a passing-out parade for more than 6,000 recruits at the National Police College in Kiganjo.

The new attire replaces the previous all-deep-blue look with a dual-tone combination of light sky-blue shirts and deep navy-blue trousers. The redesign includes specific provisions for expectant female officers. This change follows a 2023 public participation exercise where officers expressed a preference to revert to a previously agreed-upon design.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja announced that the national rollout begins Monday, August 31, 2026. While General Duty officers in the Kenya Police Service will transition to the new attire, personnel in the Administration Police Service and the General Service Unit will retain their current operational uniforms. The initiative is intended to improve service delivery and boost officer morale.
