JetZero Secures JAL Partnership and Gulf Air Order for Z4

U.S. aerospace startup JetZero announced two major commercial milestones at the Farnborough International Airshow on July 21, 2026. The company entered a development partnership with Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (JAL) to refine the Z4, a next-generation mid-market commercial jet. The collaboration focuses on aircraft specifications, ground operations, airport compatibility, and a maintenance, repair, and overhaul framework to support a planned entry into service in the early 2030s.

Simultaneously, Gulf Air signed a nonbinding letter of intent to acquire an undisclosed number of Z4 aircraft, becoming the first Middle Eastern carrier to commit to the program. These agreements secure preferential delivery positions for the early 2030s, aligning with JAL's Vision 2035 and Gulf Air's fleet modernization.

The Z4 utilizes a blended wing body design to reduce aerodynamic drag, targeting a 30% to 50% improvement in fuel efficiency over current aircraft. It is designed with a 250-seat capacity and a 5,000-nautical-mile range. JetZero is currently constructing a full-scale demonstrator, the Jet1, at Northrop Grumman's Scaled Composites facility in California, with a first flight targeted for the fourth quarter of 2027. The program has also drawn interest from United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and Delta Air Lines.
