Boeing Wins Billions in Air Force and Navy Jet Contracts
Boeing secured a $2.4 billion F-15EX contract and a $20 billion F/A-XX deal as the U.S. military accelerates fighter fleet modernization.
The United States Air Force and Navy awarded Boeing billions of dollars in fighter jet contracts on September 30, 2026. The Air Force issued a $2.4 billion contract for 22 F-15EX fighter jets, representing the seventh production lot. This award was finalized just before an October 1 deadline to utilize reconciliation funds from the 2025 One Big Beautiful Bill, preventing an 8.3 percent funding cut. This brings the total number of F-15EX jets under contract to 120, toward a planned fleet of 267.
Simultaneously, the U.S. Navy selected Boeing over Northrop Grumman for a $20 billion contract to develop the sixth-generation F/A-XX fighter jet. These awards come as the White House requests $1.5 trillion for fiscal 2027 defense outlays. The Air Force continues to diversify its fleet, including a $438 million upgrade for 48 Lockheed Martin F-16 jets and the ongoing procurement of F-35 Lightning aircraft.
Despite these wins, a Pentagon selected acquisition report reveals that F-15EX production delays have pushed the milestone for full operational capability back seven months to February 2028. The report indicates that surging production has created cost and schedule uncertainties, necessitating a significant redesign to replace obsolete key systems.
