Bharat Petroleum Reports Loss for First Quarter of FY27

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited reported a consolidated net loss for the June quarter, driven by high raw material costs and suppressed petroleum marketing margins.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited reported a consolidated net loss for the first quarter of FY27, ended June 30, 2026, reversing a net profit of ₹6,839.02 crore from the same period last year. Reports differ on the specific loss figure, with some citing a consolidated loss of ₹1,872.70 crore and others listing a standalone net loss of ₹3,962.13 crore.

The financial decline was driven by suppressed marketing margins on petroleum products and elevated raw material costs, fueled by global crude price increases and supply route disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. These losses were partially offset by higher refining margins and ₹1,898.49 crore in government compensation for domestic LPG under-recoveries, though the company noted a cumulative negative LPG buffer of ₹15,803.74 crore.

Despite the loss, revenue from operations grew more than 23% year-over-year to approximately ₹1.59 lakh crore. Operational data showed domestic sales remained stable at 13.62 million metric tonnes, while refinery throughput decreased to 10.15 million metric tonnes. Separately, auditors found the company non-compliant with Securities and Exchange Board of India Listing Regulations regarding board composition, specifically the requirement for a woman director and the optimal combination of independent directors.
