Nigerian Passengers Protest Stranded Flights at Nairobi Airport

More than 120 Nigerian passengers staged a protest at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi on the night of August 31, 2026. The travelers had been stranded for over 24 hours following repeated flight cancellations and delays on routes to Lagos.

Nigerian passengers cited a lack of clear communication from officials and criticized the failure to provide hotel accommodations for children, pregnant women, and elderly travelers. The disruptions resulted from a second-day go-slow strike conducted by airport workers.

The Kenya Aviation Workers Union organized the industrial action, citing grievances over a collective bargaining agreement with the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority. Union representatives also accused the Kenya Airports Authority and Kenya Airways of failing to cooperate during labor negotiations.
