Somnath Bharti Accuses BJP of Voter Deletion Conspiracy in Delhi

Former Delhi Minister and senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Somnath Bharti accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission of India of conspiring to delete 20 to 30 lakh voters in Delhi. At a press conference on August 4, 2026, Bharti challenged the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, specifically the requirement that voters or their parents be listed in the 2002 electoral roll.

Bharti claims this criterion excludes millions of eligible citizens, including tenants and himself, who lack permanent residence proof. He further alleged that BJP legislators are instructing Booth Level Officers on which names to retain to profile and eliminate Aam Aadmi Party supporters.

Bharti addressed Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, warning that the exercise constitutes a direct assault on democracy. He demanded an immediate change in the course of the voter verification process to prevent the undermining of democratic elections.
