Indian Missions in UAE Celebrate 80th Independence Day
The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and Consulate in Dubai hosted record crowds to celebrate India's 80th Independence Day with flag-hoisting and consular updates.
The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Indian Consulate in Dubai celebrated India's 80th Independence Day on August 15, 2026. The events featured flag-hoisting ceremonies, the national anthem, and the reading of President Droupadi Murmu's Address to the Nation.
In Abu Dhabi, Ambassador Deepak Mittal unfurled the tricolour as part of Surya Path Tiranga, a coordinated relay involving 54 Indian missions globally. Mittal used the occasion to highlight the India–UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the national objective of achieving a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
In Dubai, Consul General E. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy led the celebrations and announced that the Consulate has cleared its backlog of passport applications. Reddy stated that normal applications are now processed within five working days, while Tatkal applications are processed the next day and dispatched on the third.
Both celebrations included cultural performances and the felicitation of winners from community competitions, including the Bharat Ko Janiye quiz.
