EVgo Opens First NACS Supercharger Station in Chicago
EVgo opened its first Supercharger station in Chicago as part of a plan to deploy 500 NACS-compatible stalls nationwide by 2026.
EVgo Inc. opened its first Supercharger station near downtown Chicago on Tuesday, marking the start of a planned expansion of hundreds of charging stalls across its network. The facility is located at a Regency Centers grocery-anchored property and features 12 charging stalls. These stalls utilize Magic Dock technology, allowing both North American Charging Standard (NACS) and Combined Charging System (CCS) vehicles to charge without personal adapters.
The station is integrated into Tesla’s in-car navigation system and Trip Planner. This deployment is part of a broader strategy to transition to NACS, with the company aiming to install 500 NACS stalls nationwide by the end of 2026. EVgo also plans to equip all sites built from 2023 onward with NACS connectors within two years.
CEO Badar Khan described the opening as an important milestone for growing the company's customer base and supporting the industry's transition to NACS. The expansion follows a period of significant growth in the region, with electric vehicle registrations in Illinois increasing by nearly 60% over the last two years.
