Hindustan Zinc Reports Record Profit and Appoints New CEO

Hindustan Zinc reported a 145% surge in first-quarter net profit and announced Amarendu Prakash will succeed Arun Misra as CEO on August 1.

Hindustan Zinc Limited reported record financial results for the first quarter ending June 30, 2026, with consolidated net profit rising approximately 145% year-on-year to 54.69 billion rupees ($578 million). Revenue from operations grew 77% to 137.47 billion rupees, supported by higher base and precious metal prices, increased production, and a stronger US dollar.

The company achieved its highest-ever first-quarter mined metal production of 268 kilotons and recorded its lowest quarterly zinc cost of production at $851 per tonne. These results follow a period of operational expansion and debottlenecking initiatives intended to reinforce the company's position as a low-cost producer.

Alongside the financial report, the board announced a leadership transition. Amarendu Prakash, the former Chairman and Managing Director of Steel Authority of India Ltd, will become CEO and Whole-time Director effective August 1, 2026. He replaces Arun Misra, who steps down on July 31. Additionally, Amit Gupta assumed the role of Chief Financial Officer on June 1, 2026.
