Toyota Estimates 6.4 Billion Dollar Annual Robotics Investment

Toyota Motor estimates that modernizing its factories through accelerated automation and robotics deployment could cost 1 trillion yen, or approximately $6.4 billion, annually starting in 2028. This potential investment would span Toyota, its group companies, and major suppliers to address aging infrastructure and labor shortages.

The company informed investors that the initiative would require approximately 400,000 humanoid and non-humanoid robots. The deployment targets industrial robotics, automated logistics, and human-robot collaboration. While Toyota has not confirmed a definitive timeline or the total duration of the spending, the move signals a strategic shift toward broader automation.

Other industry players are pursuing similar timelines. Hyundai Motor Company plans to deploy humanoid robots from its subsidiary, Boston Dynamics, at its Georgia plant in the United States beginning in 2028. Analysts from Maestro suggest that Toyota's focus on robotics could expand its growth opportunities and increase investor appreciation for the company beyond vehicle manufacturing.
