Microsoft Expands PC Gaming Strategy and Debunks Steam Exit Rumors

Microsoft Corporation is debunking rumors that it intends to stop selling Xbox games on the Steam storefront. Instead, the company is broadening its PC gaming strategy by investing in the Xbox PC app and enhancing gaming optimizations for Windows 11.

As part of this expansion, the company is developing a backwards compatibility emulator for PC that would include original Xbox and potentially Xbox 360 titles. Microsoft is also expected to reveal a program called Positron in August. This initiative allows users to convert supported physical Xbox discs into digital licenses, which provides PC versions for games that support Xbox Play Anywhere.

In a separate collaboration, Microsoft and Blizzard Entertainment are reportedly planning to open the Battle.net platform to third-party developers to increase available content. These strategic shifts are being evaluated under the leadership of Xbox CEO Asha Sharma.
