American Express Expands Newark Lounge to 30,000 Square Feet

American Express is expanding its planned Newark Liberty International Airport lounge to 30,000 square feet, making it the company's largest facility globally.

American Express announced Thursday that it will increase the size of its upcoming Centurion Lounge at Newark Liberty International Airport's Terminal A to 30,000 square feet. The facility, which will span two floors, is significantly larger than the originally planned 18,000 square feet and will surpass the company's Atlanta location to become its largest lounge worldwide.

Scheduled to open next year, the Newark facility will be the first lounge at the airport operated by a credit card issuer. The company also announced a second lounge at London Heathrow Airport and expansions at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston and Philadelphia International Airport, where the lounge will double in size to 12,000 square feet.

These expansions follow a broader industry trend of lounge operators increasing capacity to combat overcrowding. Competitors including United Airlines and American Airlines are similarly planning record-sized facilities to meet rising traveler demand.
