Kenya Condemns Houthi Red Sea Attacks and Secures Fuel

The Government of Kenya condemned recent Houthi attacks on commercial vessels, including Saudi Arabian oil tankers, in the Red Sea. Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi warned that these attacks and threats to blockade the Bab al-Mandab Strait risk disrupting global supply chains for oil and fertilizer, which could increase freight costs and heighten inflationary pressures within Kenya and the surrounding region.

To mitigate these economic risks, Kenya is utilizing a Government-to-Government fuel import framework with major producers, specifically Saudi Arabia, to secure stable petroleum supplies. The Kenyan government described the escalation of hostilities as "deeply regrettable."

Kenya has called upon regional and international partners to use diplomatic and multilateral mechanisms to ensure freedom of navigation and restore maritime security in the region.
