Texas Honors Army Private Isabella Gonzales After Jordan Strike

Hundreds of people gathered in North Texas on August 1 and 2, 2026, to honor Isabella Gonzales, a 19-year-old U.S. Army Private killed in action on July 17. Gonzales was killed by an Iranian strike on a U.S. military base in Jordan while supporting a mission against the Islamic State during a period of renewed fighting between the United States and Iran.

Commemorations began in Carrollton with an Honor Ride from Maverick Harley-Davidson to Hebron High School, followed by a celebration of life service at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano. The Carrollton American Legion held a fundraiser for the family, and the Carrollton City Council announced plans to establish a permanent memorial in her honor.

Following her death, the Pentagon moved Gonzales and three other service members from the official Iran war casualty total to a new category designated as "Overseas Operations." This classification change has raised questions regarding the methodology used to count military casualties during the conflict.
