Anthropic Launches MCP Apps for Interactive Third-Party Integration

Anthropic launched MCP Apps on January 26, 2026, an extension of the open-source Model Context Protocol (MCP) that embeds interactive visual interfaces from third-party applications directly into the Claude chatbot. This update allows users to perform complex tasks—such as drafting Slack messages, customizing Canva presentations, and managing Asana or monday.com projects—within the chat window rather than receiving simple text-based responses.

The initial rollout features nine partners, including Figma, Box, Clay, Amplitude, and Hex. The company also announced a partnership with Salesforce to eventually integrate Agentforce, Data 360, and Customer 360. These connectors are available to users on paid subscription plans, including Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise.

Originally created by Anthropic in 2024 and later donated to the Linux Foundation, the MCP has been adopted by other major AI companies including OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft. While the development signals a shift toward AI platforms acting as operating systems for embedded tools, some analysts caution that running third-party UIs within the chatbot could increase security risks and necessitate more rigorous corporate due diligence.
