Maine Candidates Hold Key Congressional and Gubernatorial Debates
Maine political candidates face off in two separate debates on Thursday to contest the 2nd Congressional District and the governorship.
Two high-profile political debates are scheduled for Thursday in Maine, focusing on the race for the 2nd Congressional District and the governorship. In the congressional contest, Matt Dunlap, the State Auditor and Democratic nominee who secured his spot via ranked-choice voting, will debate former Governor Paul LePage, the sole Republican qualifier, at 8 p.m. in an event hosted by WMTW.
Earlier at 7 p.m. in Portland, gubernatorial candidates will meet for their first debate, hosted by News Center Maine and the Maine State Chamber of Commerce. Democratic candidate Hannah Pingree, Republican Bobby Charles, and independent Rick Bennett are competing to address a $1 billion budget gap left by outgoing Governor Janet Mills. Decision Desk HQ currently identifies Pingree as the favorite in the gubernatorial race.
