Gordon Brown Predicts Irish Unification and Opposes Scottish Independence

Gordon Brown stated in an interview with the Guardian that the unification of Ireland is inevitable in the long term, though he described it as a long process requiring mutual agreement among the people.

While predicting a united Ireland, the former British Prime Minister maintained firm opposition to Scottish independence. He argued that independence would not be the right way forward for Scotland because of the region's deep links to the rest of the United Kingdom.

Coinciding with the release of his book, The Future Starts With Us, Brown also addressed energy policy. He advocated for continued oil and gas drilling in the North Sea to preserve the infrastructure and skills needed to transition to hydrogen, carbon capture, and renewables. He suggested this transition be managed through a European consortium including Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Denmark.
