Chandigarh Congress Distributes Sugar to Protest Rising Inflation

The Chandigarh Congress organized a 'Sugar Langar' in Chandigarh on Wednesday, distributing sugar to citizens to protest the rising cost of essential commodities. The event served as both a public outreach effort and a form of political satire targeting the BJP-led Union government.

Chandigarh Congress president HS Lucky alleged that the administration failed to fulfill its promise to curb inflation, noting that sugar prices have risen from approximately Rs 25-30 to Rs 70-75 per kilogram. Lucky announced that the party plans to expand these distribution drives to include pulses, onions, tomatoes, and mustard oil.

The protest aligns with criticisms from Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, who attributed the price hikes to the government's ethanol-blending policy. Kejriwal alleged that 25 lakh tonnes of sugarcane were diverted for ethanol production, contributing to the shortage and price increase of sugar.
