Azerbaijan Non-Oil Sector Drives 1.5% Economic Growth

Azerbaijan reported that its non-oil and gas sector grew 2.6% in 2026, accounting for over 70% of the country's gross domestic product.

The non-oil and gas sector of Azerbaijan accounted for more than 70% of the country's gross domestic product between January and September 2026. Deputy Economy Minister Anar Akhundov announced that this sector expanded by 2.6% during that period, serving as the primary driver for an overall economic growth of 1.5%.

Growth was primarily fueled by non-oil manufacturing, transport and warehousing, and information and communications. By the end of 2026, the government projects overall GDP growth will reach 1.7%, with the non-oil and gas segment expected to increase by 3.1%. Strategic foreign exchange reserves rose 5.1% to $89.4 billion, while non-government investment in the non-oil sector grew by 20.7%.

As the 2022-2026 Socio-Economic Development Strategy concludes, the government is developing a new strategy for 2027-2030. This upcoming framework will prioritize regional development, private investment, and export-oriented production to further diversify the national economy.
