Amazon and Constellation Energy Sign $3 Billion Nuclear Deal
Amazon and Constellation Energy signed a 20-year agreement to expand the Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center with $3 billion in infrastructure investment.
Constellation Energy Corporation and Amazon.com Inc. signed a 20-year agreement on Wednesday to expand the Calvert Cliffs Clean Energy Center in Lusby, Maryland. The deal involves 690 megawatts of power and will facilitate more than $3 billion in infrastructure investment at the nuclear facility.
This expansion is expected to add approximately 190 megawatts of new generating capacity between 2030 and 2032, increasing the plant's total capacity beyond its current 1,790 megawatts. Amazon's commitment provides the revenue certainty necessary for Constellation to relicense the plant for an additional 20 years.
As part of the partnership, the two companies entered into a retail supply agreement to support Amazon's operations across the 13-state PJM market. All electricity generated by the facility will continue to flow into the PJM regional grid.
