German Equity Markets Close Higher Led by Software and Consumer Gains
German stock indices rose on Friday, August 21, 2026, with the DAX climbing 0.56% and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. recording the highest MDAX gain.
The Frankfurt Stock Exchange closed higher on Friday, August 21, 2026, as gains in the software, food and beverages, and consumer cyclical sectors drove market growth. The DAX index rose 0.56%, while the MDAX and TecDAX indices climbed 1.09% and 0.53%, respectively. Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones 389 to 251 across the exchange.
Within the DAX, Adidas AG led performers with a 2.28% increase, followed by Scout24 AG and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG. MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. experienced the sharpest decline in the index, falling 1.92%. In the MDAX, Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. recorded the session's highest gain at 5.61%, while Fielmann AG dropped 6.58% to reach a 52-week low.
Broader commodity markets also saw increases. Gold futures rose 2.19% to reach $4,671.64 per troy ounce, and crude oil prices experienced modest gains.
