Walmart Partners With Dunkin' to Expand Restaurant Delivery
Walmart is partnering with Dunkin' to offer restaurant delivery at 150 locations, aiming to transform its app into a broader local-commerce platform.
Walmart Inc. announced a food-delivery partnership with Dunkin', a brand owned by Inspire Brands, to compete directly with delivery services such as Uber Eats and DoorDash. The initiative launches at 150 Walmart store locations with the goal of expanding to most of the 10,000 Dunkin' locations across the United States.
This move shifts the company's strategy from delivering its own merchandise to operating as a local-commerce platform. Customers can now bundle restaurant orders with household essentials through the Walmart website or app. The company previously tested this delivery model through a partnership with Subway in June.
To execute the service, Walmart is utilizing its Spark delivery network of independent contractors. The company intends to leverage its physical infrastructure, noting that its stores are located within 10 miles of 90% of the U.S. population. Greg Cathey, Senior Vice President of E-commerce Fulfillment Transformation, stated that by expanding restaurant delivery beyond its stores, the company is offering a "value and convenience proposition that is unmatched."
