Amazon Launches Prime Big Deal Days Amid Scam Warnings
Amazon started its Prime Big Deal Days sale on October 6 while security experts warned customers about fraudulent payment update emails.
Amazon launched its Prime Big Deal Days sale on October 6, 2026, offering Prime members two days of discounts on various products, including a nearly 50% price reduction on the Amazon Smart Plug. The event faced some criticism from observers who found the branding confusing compared to the traditional Prime Day terminology.
Concurrent with the sale, former police officer Joe Waters used TikTok to warn consumers about a surge in phishing scams. These fraudulent emails and texts mimic official Amazon notifications, claiming a user's Prime payment method has expired to trick them into providing credit card details on fake websites.
Waters advised shoppers to avoid clicking links in messages and instead verify any account alerts through the official Amazon app's Message Centre. He cautioned that these fake pages are designed to look identical to the real Amazon site to deceive users.
