Tech Investor Warns of Slowing AI Revenue Growth

Investor Dan Niles warns that native AI companies face slowing revenue growth and pricing pressure, leading several firms to postpone initial public offerings.

Tech investor Dan Niles warns that revenue growth for native AI companies is slowing dramatically, signaling a need for investors to shift toward selective stock picking and risk management. Niles identifies a sharp decline in sequential revenue growth for Anthropic, which dropped from approximately 145% in the second quarter to 43% in the third quarter, with fourth-quarter projections expected to fall to around 20%.

Niles attributes this trend to pricing pressure on tokens, driven by the emergence of high-quality open-source and open-weight models from Meta, Nvidia, and various Asian developers. This competitive environment, coupled with expensive debt and higher funding costs, has forced companies including Air Trunk, Furmis, and nScale to postpone their initial public offerings.

According to Niles, the current market correction, which includes a 6% drop in the S&P 500, is a healthy development. He argues that these conditions force the market to prioritize sustainable growth over speculative AI investments.
