Punjab Publishes Final Electoral Rolls With 20 Million Voters

Chief Electoral Officer Anindita Mitra released the final electoral rolls for Punjab, recording 20,100,727 eligible voters following a special intensive revision exercise.

The Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab published the final electoral rolls on Monday after completing a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. The updated rolls list 20,100,727 eligible voters for the upcoming Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections, comprising 10,376,026 men, 9,724,195 women, and 506 third-gender voters.

Anindita Mitra reported a 6.3% reduction in the total voter count from the pre-SIR figure of 21,461,043. While the process added 797,263 new voters, more than 20 lakh names were removed from the draft rolls. These deletions were attributed to deaths, permanent relocation, duplication, or absence during surveys.

To ensure transparency and accuracy, the electoral office collaborated with Block Level Assistants from seven registered political parties. Mitra stated that the office issued notices to 34 lakh voters to rectify errors before finalizing the list.
