Major U.S. Corporations Report Resilient Third-Quarter Earnings

Royal Caribbean, Coca-Cola, and UPS report strong third-quarter demand, though appliance maker Whirlpool sees a decline in North American sales.

Early third-quarter earnings reports from major U.S. corporations show a resilient American consumer despite high borrowing costs, inflationary pressures, and record-high diesel fuel prices. Several industry leaders beat analyst expectations, with Royal Caribbean reporting a 9% increase in guests and the Coca-Cola Company raising its full-year earnings growth forecast to at least 11%.

UPS also exceeded Wall Street expectations and increased its full-year revenue projection to approximately $92.6 billion. While retail sales rose 0.8% in September, the resilience across sectors remains uneven. Sherwin-Williams beat revenue expectations but missed earnings per share targets, noting that its sales growth was driven primarily by higher prices rather than market volume.

In contrast, Whirlpool Corporation reported a significant downturn, missing both revenue and earnings targets. The appliance maker saw North American net sales decline by more than 8% and subsequently cut its full-year revenue guidance.
