UK Retailers Announce Reduced August Bank Holiday Hours

Major UK retailers and supermarkets have established trading schedules for the August Bank Holiday on Monday, August 31. Most stores in England and Wales will operate on reduced schedules, while branches in Scotland and Northern Ireland are expected to maintain standard operating hours.

Supermarket chains including Aldi, Morrisons, and Sainsbury's will largely operate from 7am or 8am until 8pm. Tesco will implement shorter hours for its larger supermarkets in England and Wales, closing at 6pm. In contrast, convenience stores operated by Co-op and Sainsbury's will maintain normal operations.

Other retailers, such as Marks and Spencer, Home Bargains, and B&M, also expect reduced hours, with Marks and Spencer typically closing between 6pm and 8pm. Lidl will run reduced hours from 8am to 8pm for most stores in Wales and those located outside the M25. Retailers are urging customers to use online store locators to verify specific times for local branches.
