The leader of the Raam party, Mansour Abbas, recruited Yoav Segalovitz to take the No. 2 spot on the party's candidate list for the upcoming October election. Segalovitz is a former deputy minister of national security, a veteran police commander, and a former member of the centrist Yesh Atid party. This appointment marks a significant shift as the United Arab List opens its membership to all religions and integrates a prominent figure from the Zionist establishment.
Abbas intends to use the partnership to demonstrate Raam's moderation and commitment to coexistence, positioning the party as a viable coalition partner to replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Segalovitz previously worked to reduce crime in Arab cities during the Bennett-Lapid government and has expressed a desire to return as national security minister to address current security failures and rampant crime.
During the announcement, Abbas criticized other political factions for being afraid of partnership, while Segalovitz stated that the current government has brought the state of Israel to intolerable places in every sphere of life.
