Wisconsin Election Officials Detail Safeguards After Ballot Errors
Wisconsin election officials outlined security measures for the November 3 general election following an investigation into duplicate absentee ballots sent in Green Bay.
State and local election officials held a news conference in Green Bay on Wednesday to detail preparations for the November 3 general election. Meagan Wolfe, administrator of the Wisconsin Elections Commission, directed voters to the MyVote Wisconsin website for registration and ballot information while addressing previous administrative failures in the region.
During the briefing, Wolfe addressed errors in Green Bay where duplicate absentee ballots were sent during two elections earlier this year. She stated that the commission has no reason to suspect similar issues in other municipalities. To prevent double-counting, Wolfe explained that the statewide voter registration database requires clerks to track all ballots, ensuring only one ballot per voter is checked in.
Brown County clerk Patrick Moynihan Jr. and De Pere city clerk Carey Danen provided additional details regarding election security and the roles of poll workers. The discussion followed the August resignation of former Green Bay city clerk Celestine Jeffreys, who stepped down after a commission investigation determined she broke state law regarding the duplicate ballots.
