Sunil Kothari Elected Mayor of Jaipur Municipal Corporation

Sunil Kothari of the Bharatiya Janata Party was elected Mayor of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation on September 25, defeating Congress candidate Sunita Mawar. Kothari secured 89 votes in the 150-member corporation, comfortably surpassing the majority mark of 76.

The election process was disrupted by significant unrest and allegations of irregularities. Congress leaders and councillors claimed that some of their members were blocked from entering the voting area, while unauthorized individuals were permitted inside the polling zone. These tensions escalated into clashes between Congress councillors and police near the main gate.

In response to the alleged voter suppression, MLA Rafiq Khan, MLA Amin Kagzi, and City President Sunil Sharma led a sit-in protest outside the corporation office. Congress officials demanded a review of CCTV footage to identify the unauthorized persons in the polling area. Despite these disruptions, the voting concluded and the result was declared. The election for Deputy Mayor is scheduled for September 26.
