India Penalizes AWL Agri Business for Substandard Fortune Oil

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) penalized AWL Agri Business Ltd for manufacturing and selling substandard fortified sunflower cooking oil under the Fortune brand. The regulator identified the issue after a sample of Fortune Fryola refined sunflower seed oil, collected from the Taj Fort Aguada Resort & Spa in Goa, failed laboratory testing.

Tests indicated that Vitamin A and Vitamin D levels were below the limits prescribed by the FSS (Fortification of Foods) Regulations, 2018. While AWL Agri Business Ltd appealed the initial findings, a referral laboratory confirmed that the Vitamin D content remained significantly below the required range.

An Adjudicating Officer in Goa subsequently issued an adjudication order penalizing the company under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The FSSAI has not disclosed the specific amount of the penalty.
