Republican Mike Bost Wins Reelection to Illinois 12th District
Republican incumbent Mike Bost defeated Democrat Julie Fortier to secure a seventh term representing Illinois' 12th Congressional District.
Mike Bost won reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives for Illinois' 12th Congressional District on Tuesday, defeating Democratic challenger Julie Fortier. The victory secures a seventh term for Bost, who currently serves as the Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
Bost campaigned on a platform of strengthening the agricultural economy, expanding domestic energy production, and reducing government spending. His opponent, Julie Fortier, a cancer research scientist and Air Force veteran, focused her campaign on protecting reproductive freedom and expanding affordable healthcare.
Following the Associated Press's call of the race, Bost celebrated the win at a Republican watch party in Murphysboro. Although the Democratic party gained control of both the House and Senate, Bost stated he will continue fighting for his beliefs while seeking common ground with Democrats to support the needs of his district.
