EU Fuel Prices Rise 13.7 Percent Year-on-Year in June

Eurostat reports that EU fuel and lubricant prices rose 13.7 percent in June 2026, though monthly prices for diesel and gasoline declined.

The statistical office of the European Union, Eurostat, reported on July 22 that fuel and lubricant prices for personal transport across the EU increased by 13.7 percent in June 2026 compared to June 2025. This annual growth represents a slowdown from the higher peaks of 20.8 percent seen in April and 20.7 percent in May.

Price volatility varied significantly by member state. Bulgaria recorded the sharpest annual increase at 26 percent, followed by Lithuania, Romania, Finland, and Luxembourg. Hungary experienced the most modest rise, with prices increasing only 2.3 percent.

Despite the yearly increase, short-term trends showed a decline between May and June 2026. During this monthly period, EU diesel prices fell by 6.4 percent and gasoline prices dropped by 4.2 percent. These pricing fluctuations follow the commencement of US-Israeli attacks on Iran in February 2026.
