Meta Adds AI Training Opt-Out for Smart Glasses

Meta Platforms Incorporated is introducing a new privacy setting for its smart glasses that allows users to opt out of having their visual data stored for AI training. Previously, the company stored visual data collected during AI interactions for training purposes, although it maintained that standard photos and videos in a user's camera roll remained private.

The policy change follows reports that human data annotators in Kenya had access to images and videos captured during AI interactions, some of which included intimate moments. Users can now disable this specific data collection through the settings in the Meta AI app.

During the Meta Connect 2026 conference, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced two new styles of glasses that will feature voice-only AI without cameras. These hardware options are intended to address ongoing privacy concerns regarding the capture of visual data.
