Michigan Absentee Ballot Requests Rise 27 Percent Over 2022

Michigan officials report over 201,000 absentee ballots cast and more than 2 million requested as the state prepares for the 2026 General Election.

More than 201,000 Michigan voters have cast absentee ballots for the 2026 General Election as of October 6, marking a 30 percent increase compared to the same period in 2022. State data shows that 2,047,983 voters have requested mail ballots, a rise of over 27 percent since 2022, while 1,967,830 voters are currently on the permanent absentee ballot list. The submitted ballots represent 2.7 percent of the state's active registered voters.

Aghogho Edevbie, the Deputy Secretary of State, stated that voting by mail is a secure and constitutional right. With four weeks remaining before Election Day, Edevbie urged eligible voters to register and request their ballots.

Officials noted that voters can return their ballots through the mail, at ballot drop boxes, or at local clerk offices. For those preferring to vote in person, the state is providing at least nine days of early voting in addition to the polls on Election Day.
