Newcastle Airport Named Airport of the Year at Aviation Industry Awards
Newcastle Airport won the Airport of the Year title at the Aviation Industry Awards UK following significant infrastructure investment and network expansion.
The Aviation Industry Awards UK named Newcastle International Airport the Airport of the Year, surpassing Manchester Airport for the title. A panel of industry experts based the decision on the airport's customer service, infrastructure improvements, sustainability achievements, and network growth.
Recent expansions include the launch of 22 new routes to cities such as Berlin, Copenhagen, Lisbon, and Nice, alongside the opening of a new easyJet base that serves 32 destinations. The airport invested nearly £60 million in facilities, including a three-storey terminal extension and an expanded security search area that enables 99 percent of passengers to clear security in under 10 minutes.
On the environmental front, the airport achieved a 100 percent score in the 2025 Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark as it pursues a net zero carbon goal by 2035. Chief Executive Nick Jones credited the achievement to the hard work of staff and business partners.
