Atedo Peterside Demands INEC Accountability After Osun Election

Founder of the GoNigeria Initiative Atedo Peterside called for continued accountability from the Independent National Electoral Commission following the 2026 Osun State governorship election. While incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke won the race, Peterside cautioned against complacency regarding the electoral process.

Peterside highlighted that a 43.4 percent voter turnout served as the "best antidote to rigging" by recent Nigerian standards. However, he raised concerns over the Result Viewing Portal (IReV), noting that as of 8:50 a.m. on the day after the election, only 98.35 percent of results had been uploaded.

He demanded an explanation from the commission regarding missing results from 62 of the state's 3,763 polling units. Peterside acknowledged that these specific outstanding results are largely inconsequential to the final outcome given the scale of Adeleke's victory, but maintained that the commission must still be held accountable for the gaps in data.
