Poland Deploys Patriot Battery to Lublin Border Region
Poland is deploying a Patriot air defense battery to the Lublin region to protect its eastern flank from security threats linked to Russia's war in Ukraine.
The Ministry of Defense of Poland is deploying a Patriot air defense battery to the Lublin region near the Ukrainian border. Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced the move on October 5, stating the decision was made several weeks prior to protect the region and provide a sense of security following multiple Russian strikes that landed near the Polish border.
This deployment is part of a broader military expansion of the 18th Mechanized Division along Poland's eastern flank. The government is establishing several new infrastructure projects, including a military unit in Biłgoraj and an unmanned-systems formation in Łuków. Additional bases for Abrams tanks are planned for the areas of Poniatowa and Kraśnik.
To further enhance its aerial capabilities, Poland intends to establish an army helicopter base at Świdnik Airport. This facility will support AH-64E Apache helicopters by the end of 2026.
