Nvidia Expands Strategic AI Investments to $99 Billion

Nvidia increased its equity investments tenfold to $99 billion, targeting key stakes in Intel, OpenAI, and SpaceX to secure its AI ecosystem.

Nvidia Inc. has rapidly expanded its role as a global strategic investor, increasing its equity holdings more than tenfold over the past year to $99 billion. The company committed over $40 billion in 2026 to bolster the AI sector, including nearly $50 billion directed toward frontier AI labs. This aggressive capital deployment includes a $30 billion investment in OpenAI and a planned $12.9 billion acquisition of the AI startup Hugging Face.

To secure its technical ecosystem and supply chain, Nvidia holds a $30 billion position in Intel, which began with a $5 billion common stock purchase in December 2025. This partnership aims to integrate Nvidia's accelerated computing hardware with Intel's x86 ecosystem. Additionally, Nvidia has invested $2 billion each into Marvell, Lumentum, Coherent, and cloud providers CoreWeave and Nebius. The company is also providing up to $105 billion in conditional credit support for an OpenAI data center in Ohio.

Nvidia's portfolio also includes a $21 billion stake in Space Exploration Technologies Corp. This position evolved from a $10 billion investment in the AI startup xAI in January 2026, which converted into SpaceX shares following SpaceX's acquisition of xAI and its initial public offering on June 12, 2026. These strategic moves are designed to protect Nvidia's CUDA software moat, diversify its customer base, and reduce manufacturing concentration risks.
