Argentina Launches Golden Passport Program to Attract Investment

President Javier Milei announced a citizenship-for-investment program granting Argentine passports to foreigners who donate $350,000 or buy $800,000 in government bonds.

Javier Milei, the President of Argentina, announced a golden passport program during a summit in Paris to attract foreign investment to the cash-strapped nation. The initiative grants Argentine citizenship to individuals who either donate $350,000 to the national treasury or purchase a government bond valued at $800,000.

Citizenship through this program provides holders with visa-free access to more than 140 countries, including China, Russia, and members of the European Union, while allowing them to live and work across South America. Economy Minister Luis Caputo described the program as a channel to "sell Argentina to the world."

To prevent money laundering and criminal exploitation, the government stated that all applications will undergo rigorous evaluation, including background checks and verification of the origins of the funds. Argentina is now one of only two G20 nations offering such a scheme, alongside Turkey.
