Bicester Residents Protest Plan to House 1,250 Asylum Seekers

Residents of Bicester have organized a protest for Saturday, August 1, on Sheep Street to oppose plans by the Government of the United Kingdom to house 1,250 male asylum seekers at a military site. The demonstration, scheduled for 12 p.m., will involve the distribution of information leaflets and the signing of petitions. This action follows a previous protest held on July 26.

The government intends to use the disused Site A at MOD Bicester for the facility. In response, the Cherwell District Council criticized the government for a lack of consultation. The council is requesting comprehensive details regarding the project's scale, security measures, and the potential impact on local services.

Protest organizer Paula Ewers stated that music will be played during the event, but no speakers will be used. The group intends to focus on public information and petitioning to express their opposition to the facility's placement.
