Iran Executes Hossein Pedaran for Spying for Mossad

The Judiciary of Iran executed Hossein Pedaran for espionage and intelligence collaboration after he allegedly provided the Mossad with information regarding missile sites in Isfahan province. The Supreme Court of Iran upheld the death sentence prior to the execution.

This action follows a period of intensified arrests and capital punishment linked to nationwide protests in January and a regional war that began in February, which saw the death of Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Isfahan province, a hub for Iranian nuclear sites, has been heavily targeted throughout the conflict.

Pedaran is the latest in a series of executions for espionage. In August, the judiciary executed two other men for transmitting coordinates of sensitive military and security sites to Israel.
