Olivia Chow Wins Re-election as Toronto Mayor

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow defeated City Councillor Brad Bradford to secure a second term after focusing on affordable housing and city management.

Olivia Chow won re-election as Mayor of Toronto on October 26, 2026, defeating City Councillor Brad Bradford. While late-campaign polling indicated a close contest, Chow maintained a double-digit lead as the majority of polls reported on election night.

Chow campaigned on her record of reducing 911 wait times, tightening rules for bad-faith evictions, and securing a provincial deal to upload city expressway costs. Her platform for the next term includes pledges to increase affordable rental housing and cap transit fares at 10 rides per week. Following her victory, she stated, "My friends, tonight we celebrate. Tomorrow, we get back to work. Because an election victory isn’t the finish line. It is a responsibility."

Brad Bradford ran a campaign focused on crime, traffic congestion, and transit safety, proposing a one-year property tax freeze and the hiring of 1,000 police officers. He also advocated for the removal of specific bus and bike lanes. Bradford conceded the race and congratulated Chow after the results were finalized.

The election saw a surge in voter engagement, with advance poll turnout increasing nearly 72 percent compared to the 2023 byelection.
