Nityanand Rai Denies West Bengal RRU Campus Proposal

Union Minister Nityanand Rai stated that West Bengal has not proposed a Rashtriya Raksha University campus despite existing police training collaborations.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai announced in the Rajya Sabha on July 29, 2026, that the West Bengal government has not submitted any proposal to establish a Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) campus in the state. Rai explained that the establishment of new campuses is determined by institutional requirements and the availability of infrastructure.

While no formal proposal for a campus exists, Rai noted that the Rashtriya Raksha University currently provides cybercrime investigation training for West Bengal Police officers at the Kolkata Police Academy.

During the same session, Rai provided details on the Urban Flood Risk Management Programme (UFRMP). He stated that the Central Government approved a total outlay of Rs. 3,075.65 crore to mitigate urban flooding across seven cities. The funding, sourced partly from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund, allocates Rs. 500 crore each to Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata, and Rs. 250 crore each to Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune.
