Uganda Airlines Orders Eight Boeing Jets to Expand Fleet

Uganda Airlines placed its first direct order with Boeing Co. for eight aircraft during the Farnborough International Air Show on July 21, 2026. The acquisition includes four 737-8 MAX aircraft for intra-African routes, India, and the Middle East, and four 787-9 Dreamliners for long-haul flights to Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

The fleet modernization aims to position Entebbe International Airport as a strategic regional aviation hub while increasing passenger and cargo capacity. Boeing noted that the new jets will reduce fuel consumption by 20% to 25% compared to the aircraft they replace. The deal extends beyond hardware to include a long-term partnership focused on technical support, training, and capacity building.

CEO Ato Girma Wake described the commitment as a defining step in the carrier's growth journey and Uganda's economic transformation. Brad McMullen, Boeing's Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, welcomed the airline as a new customer, stating the aircraft would provide the efficiency and range needed to strengthen the airline's network.
