WSDOT Begins Second Phase of Revive I-5 Project

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has launched the second phase of the Revive I-5 project, which focuses on repairing the two right lanes of the Ship Canal Bridge. While some traffic metrics show improvement, the agency reports that southbound delays are now extending later into the afternoon and early evening, often peaking 10 to 20 minutes above baseline levels.

Traffic data from July 20 to July 24 revealed a slight decrease in average southbound travel times from I-405 in Lynnwood to State Route 520, dropping to 53 minutes from an initial 59 minutes. Despite these fluctuations, daily vehicle throughput remains near record highs, with northbound lanes averaging 99,860 vehicles per day.

WSDOT spokesperson Tom Pearce noted that while some travel times have stretched, commuters are still managing to get around. The agency advises drivers to utilize public transit, carpool, or adjust their schedules to avoid congestion, as construction delays are expected to persist through the end of the year.
